Call for Tutorial Proposals now CLOSED

The ICSE tutorial program provides conference participants with the opportunity to gain new insights, knowledge, and skills in a broad range of areas of software engineering. Participants at the tutorials include practitioners, managers, teachers, researchers and students seeking to gain a better understanding of software engineering.

We are soliciting proposals for full-day (7-hour) or half-day (3.5-hour) tutorials. The tutorial contents can be selected from a wide range of topics, from practical techniques, guidelines, standards, and surveys, to theoretical issues. We encourage tutorials that reflect the conference theme, New Horizons, and provide clear utility to conference participants.

How to submit

Tutorial proposals must be structured according to the ICSE 2010 Tutorial Submission Template. Together with the proposal, at least three typical, sample slides from the intended tutorial presentation must be submitted. The proposal, as well as the sample slides, must be submitted in PDF, with all fonts included. All submissions must be in English.

Submissions that do not comply with the foregoing instructions and the template will be desk rejected without review.

Proposals must be submitted electronically via CyberChairPro, and may be modified up to the deadline. The deadline for tutorial proposal submission is 5 October 2009.

Review and Evaluation Criteria

The tutorials committee will review each proposal and will select quality proposals that fit the evaluation criteria.

Each tutorial proposal will be evaluated on its anticipated benefit for prospective participants and its fit within the tutorial programme as a whole. Factors to be considered also include: relevance, timeliness, importance, and audience appeal; suitability for presentation in a half- or full-day tutorial format; effectiveness of teaching methods; and past experience and qualifications of the presenters.

Acceptance

Each accepted tutorial will have two pages for a summary in the conference proceedings, which will also be available electronically. The summary must be submitted by the camera-ready copy deadline (17 February 2010) in order for the tutorial to be offered. Upon notification of acceptance, all authors of accepted tutorials will be asked to complete an ACM Copyright form and will receive further instructions for preparing their camera-ready versions according to the ICSE 2010 Format and Submission Guidelines.

Tutorial presenters will have to sign a contract with the ICSE organizing committee, regulating their duties and the rules of compensation. Details are available on request.

Tutorials will be canceled if they fail to attract a minimum of 10 registrants by the close of early registration. Presenters will be notified within one week of the conclusion of early registration whether their tutorials have sufficient registrations to be held.

Topics

We particularly welcome tutorials that address areas of special interest to the Southern African software engineering community. These include:

• HCI

• security

• Web 2.0

• global/distributed software engineering

• data mining

• mobile computing

• distributed systems and middleware

• large-scale search

• cloud/grid computing

• Agile software engineering

• advanced software testing

• cost effectiveness analysis

• model-driven language engineering
